Kiss Acne Scars Goodbye With Venus Versa™ Radiofrequency Treatments

It can be disappointing to suffer from acne scars after winning the battle with this condition. The appearance of scars can leave you with low self-confidence and feeling embarrassed about your appearance. You may even feel the same or worse than when you had active acne lesions.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to prevent acne scars even if you avoid popping pimples. Acne scars result from the trauma caused by inflamed acne lesions. The lesions, which become filled with bacteria, excess oil, and dead skin cells, cause the affected pore to swell. The swelling results in a break in the follicle wall. When the break occurs deep in the follicle wall, the material spills on to the dermis and destroys surrounding healthy skin tissue.

As a result, the overlying skin collapses and leaves a depression. In response, the skin produces new collagen fibers to restore firmness and flexibility. Unfortunately, the collagen often doesn’t sufficiently fill the depression to its original smoothness, so you’re left with an indented scar.

Innovative radiofrequency treatments can help correct acne scars and make you feel proud of your skin again. Acne treatment specialist Elaine Phuah, DO, MBA, FACOI, of Hanami Aesthetics & Medical Spa in Fort Worth, Texas, provides expert acne scar repair with Venus Versa™ radiofrequency treatments. Dr. Phuah has the training and experience necessary to administer this procedure to help you achieve your cosmetic goals.

Read on to find out more about the Venus Versa and how it can help you say goodbye to the effects of acne for good.

How Venus Versa works

The Venus Versa radiofrequency system works by creating a thermal reaction through several layers of skin tissue. The device uses tiny pins to deliver heat through the surface of the skin. This creates a series of very small wounds, which stimulates the body’s natural healing response to injury or trauma.

The response to these micro-dermal wounds generates new collagen and increases the production of fibroblasts and new elastin fibers, which all work together to create new, smoother skin tissue. The result corrects acne scars without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue.

What Venus Versa treatment involves

Preparing for Venus Versa requires little effort. The main recommendation involves avoiding the use of skin products that could irritate your skin for two to three days before treatment. You should also avoid tanning, including self-tanners, for two weeks prior to treatment.

Treatments vary, but a single session typically lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. During treatment, you can expect to feel a sensation of tiny pins pricking your skin followed by a little snap or zap. The amount of discomfort you experience depends on your pain threshold and the area receiving treatment. Depending on the degree of your discomfort, Dr. Phuah may use a topical numbing cream to prevent discomfort.

Dr. Phuah customizes your Venus Versa radiofrequency treatment based on your acne severity and skin type. It typically takes three to four treatments or more to see optimal results. The time between treatments averages about four weeks.

What to expect after Venus Versa treatment

After treatment, you should prepare for about 24 hours of downtime. Your skin may feel warm, like you have a sunburn, and appear red. These effects usually subside within 24 hours. You can apply makeup and resume normal activities after the 24 hour waiting period.

Post-treatment instructions detail how to take care of your treated skin for the best results. You may use recommended topicals to relieve the warm feeling and any discomfort.

You’ll enjoy the best outcomes if you follow the recommendations for after-treatment care. Protecting your treated skin from the sun can improve results.

After-treatment recommendations advise that you avoid tanning for at least two weeks. You also should not have your skin come in contact with hot baths or massages. Any procedure or activity that requires direct contact with your skin should be avoided for the first two days after treatment for optimal results.

You’ll continue to see results after your final treatment. Depending on your results and cosmetic goals, you may have to return for one touch-up session about every six months.
